Mexican tourism sector must prepare for cannabis-using travelers
The 2026 World Cup will be the first in history to be held with decriminalized cannabis consumption in the three Venue countries: Canada, the United States and Mexico, albeit with regulatory variations.
With 5.5 million tourists expected to arrive in Mexico, many of them familiar with cannabis use, the tourism sector faces significant challenges.
The lack of clear regulation and lack of knowledge in Mexico about the management of cannabis tourism generates health, legal and public safety risks. In addition, the health and wellness tourism industry currently already incorporates cannabis services, but often lacks defined standards, posing safety risks to users and society.
In response to this scenario, Revolución con Flores is presenting its consulting and training services at the Tianguis Turístico de México. Its objective is to prepare government agencies and the tourism sector to manage visitors familiar with cannabis and reduce risks. This ranges from consulting for the development and implementation of communication campaigns and the creation of safe environments and experiences, to the planning and delivery of training, education and accreditation programs.
With a global market in excess of US$17 billion, according to Forbes, cannabis tourism represents a key opportunity for Mexico. Canada and the United States, co-hosts of the World Cup and main emitters of tourists to the country, have a regulated cannabis market.
This context, added to the fact that 50% of millennial travelers worldwide consider the availability of cannabis when choosing a destination, underscores the urgency for the Mexican tourism sector to prepare, train and develop its own protocols to face this new scenario.
Revolución con Flores structures its service offering in three key areas to promote responsible and safe tourism:
Information campaigns: Consultancy to governmental institutions for the design and implementation of communication campaigns on cannabis consumption, aimed at reducing risks for tourists and the local population.
Tourism training: Training programs for tourism sector personnel on the legal context of cannabis in Mexico, security aspects and visitor service protocols.
Wellness and safe spaces: Consulting for the implementation of services with cannabis-derived products under strict protocols of responsibility, safety and good practices, including the development of safe spaces and experiences, reducing risks for users.
"Mexico has the opportunity to position itself as a reference in cannabis tourism. Our services will provide the government and the tourism sector with the essential tools to ensure the safety and well-being of all," said Heidy Alexis Sancén, Co-Founder and New Business Director of Revolución con Flores.
